A very Good day to you all, especially my Readership. My last two posts were reviews of some books I read in this month and trust me you would definitely learn a lot if you do. So, if by any chance you missed any, kindly make sure to read them.
For today, I would be sharing a very scary experience I had this morning. It was so scary that I thought I had died. Can you still remember those movies you've watched.. about spirits of dead people hovering around their bodies? Yeah.. exactly how I felt this morning.
It was a very short experience to be honest but to me, based on how I felt, I thought it's been happening since time immemorial. Lol.
It happened that when I woke up this morning, my head felt very light.. I tried opening my eyes and I was able to. I tried lifting my body but I couldn't. Ahg.. I was surprised. I went ahead to try to lift my foot but I still couldn't.. I couldn't even lift my hand. I thought my soul and spirit have left my body. I became scared, lol.. that was when I knew that nobody really wanted to die. Then, after about a minute or so, everything became normal and I was able to move.
Boom.. I went on to make my research and guess what I found out..? It's called SLEEP PARALYSIS.
SLEEP PARALYSIS is a sleep disorder that occurs when a person is unable to move or speak as they're waking up or falling asleep but especially while waking up. It can be a terrifying experience, as people often feel like they're being held down or suffocated. In some cases, people may even see or hear things that aren't there. Thankfully, sleep paralysis is usually not harmful and most people will only experience it once or twice in their lives. However, it can be distressing, so it's important to understand what it is and what to do if it happens.
Of course, I will definitely tell you how it happens. There are actually four stages of sleep, which the body cycles through several times throughout the night. The first stage is light sleep, followed by deep sleep, which is also known as slow-wave sleep. The third stage is Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, which is when most dreaming occurs. The fourth stage is called transitional sleep, which is a brief period of light sleep between REM cycles. That's the first thing I think you should know.
Now, this is it -Sleep Paralysis is then thought to occur thought to occur when the brain wakes up from REM sleep before the body does. During REM sleep, the body is effectively paralyzed in order to prevent people from acting out their dreams. That is, to prevent people from harming themselves while they sleep. It's like a protective mechanism. When the "brain wakes up before the body", it can leave people feeling like they're stuck or unable to move. This can happen to anyone, but it's more common in people who are sleep deprived or have other sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy.
This is then the goodnews. While sleep paralysis can be a frightening experience, it's important to know that it can also have some benefits. First, it's thought to be a sign that your body is entering a state of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which is important for dreaming and memory consolidation. In addition, some people have reported having lucid dreams during sleep paralysis, which can be a useful tool for stress reduction and creative problem-solving. So, while it can be a scary experience, sleep paralysis may have some hidden benefits.
Dear Readership, this is what you should do whenever you experience anything that looks like my own experience. Whenever you're experiencing sleep paralysis, there are a few things you can do to make it less frightening and to help yourself wake up more quickly. First, try to stay calm and remember that you're not in any danger. Next, try wiggling your toes or fingers, or focusing on your breathing. Some people have found that repeating a mantra, such as "I am safe," can also help. Lastly, try to remind yourself that the experience will end soon, and that you'll be able to move again once you're fully awake.
